Thank you for joining me on this visual journey!
Born in 1971 in Rotterdam, I’ve spent half my life at sea as an officer, including many years as a captain on traditional sailing ships, before moving into aviation and later working as a maritime consultant for the Port of Rotterdam.
Early retirement due to burnout made me decide to move from the Netherlands to the tranquil Silver Coast of Portugal, where I now live a quiet & spiritual life, practicing meditation and embracing a mindful path.
Along the way, I developed a deep passion for art, poetry, design, and photography. At 21, after giving up a study in Cultural Anthropology, I applied to the Dutch photography academy with a handwritten letter, full of ambition to become a professional photographer/journalist. They asked me to send in my portfolio — but at that point I hadn’t taken a single photo yet! :)
God only knows why it was only in 2012 that I picked up my first DSLR, but when I finally did, my initial enthusiasm rooted firmly, never to leave me again....Since a few weeks, I capture the world through a Canon mirrorless camera.
To name but a few of my artistic heroes: Harry Gruyaert, Saul Leiter, Ansel Adams & Sebastião Salgado.
It would be my pleasure to get to know some like-minded photography enthousiasts through this medium, so drop me a line and let’s get in touch!
Captured in Focus & Light,
